It’s tactical, it’s practical, and it’s back for its first 2026 appearance: a new batch of the Kopis Designs L-Via is now available at KnivesShipFree.

The L-Via has a long lineage in the knife world, with roots that go back to a full custom piece, Ed Calderon’s Elvia. That fixed blade, like many custom pieces, came in different sizes and color configurations – but there were never enough to go around. Enter Kopis Designs, a knife shop that specializes in that small but crucial mid-point between production and custom knives: the mid-tech. In 2020 they brought out the mid-tech L-Via, a very faithful reproduction of Calderon’s custom.

Although a semi-production piece can’t be altered as often as a custom theoretically could, over the years Kopis Designs have added variations to the core L-Via design. The 2.5-inch hawkbill blade – made in 154CM since the beginning of the L-Via project, and that is unchanged in this latest batch – can be had plain edged or serrated, with a curved spine or a ramped one; this latter option works very nicely with the creatively ergonomic handle to allow for even more control over each cut.

Beyond these use-affecting varietals, you can also get the L-Via’s GFN handle in three different colors – black, tan, or dark green – and the blade in satin, dark stonewash, or bead blast finishes. All models come with a color-coordinated, Kydex pancake sheath for toting around this extremely light knife, which doesn’t even top the 2-ounce mark with the sheath!

The L-Via is available right now over at KnivesShipFree.
