Boker’s dropping a heavy duty outdoors fixed blade next month. It’s called the Sledgedog, and has a build designed to be rugged enough to live up to its name.

Any time you swing by KnifeNews, you’re guarunteed to learn something about cutlery – that’s a given. But we like to make sure to educate readers in other ways too, and today we’re offering, completely free of charge, a brief lesson in linguistic history. Did you know that the word “sledge,” as we see it in this knife’s name, is an alternate, typically British English way of saying “sled?” Well, now you do – and thus if you were wondering what a “sledgedog” was, wonder no more.

But what about the Sledgedog, the knife? It’s clear that designer Fernando Santos had classic survival knives in mind when designing this bad boy. The 6.69-inch drop point blade is pure outdoors performance, with a steep hollow grind to make sure that D2 steel edge bites deep. D2 itself has been pressed into all sorts of roles over its many years in the knife world, but it may still be best-suited to the role it has here, as an outdoors-centric hard user.

The TPE handle will be able to do its part in the great outdoors as well, as it’s resilient to shock, damp, and dirt. Santos designed the Sledgedog with a very nice forward finger guard – a detail that really ties the Sledgedog back to the legendary fixed blades of yore. Another classically minded detail? The leather sheath, which rides on the belt and comes with a snapover strap for the handle. Boker lists the total weight of the Sledgedog at 11.61 oz.

This dog’ll start barking on April 3rd.
