By Greg Frebourg Posted in #Guns In this article, Greg Frebourg reviews the Springfield Ronin EMP 9mm pistol. The handgun was loaned to the author by the company for this article. If it quacks like a duck, floats, walks and looks like a duck, well, it is a duck. That common sense saying might be full of wisdom, but it falls short as soon as anyone asks: “what kind of duck?”. Yes indeed, there are many kinds of ducks, and for most people, their differences are anecdotal and only feather deep. In some cases, looking like a…

A Soldier steps off the vehicle at first light. The rifle hangs across his chest as he checks equipment, adjusts his ruck, and moves into formation. Hours later, the rifle is still there. Through movement, briefings, security halts, vehicle operations, and countless tasks that have nothing to do with pulling a trigger, the weapon remains attached to him. Most of the time, a rifle is not being fired. It’s being carried. Photo by Army National Guard SGT Lianne M. Hirano Whether during military operations, law enforcement duties, training classes, or long days on the range, the same reality applies. The…

So last year, before hunting season started in Georgia, I received a 4″ Benchmade Meatcrafter to use for the season. A smaller hybrid deboning knife built for the outdoors, perfect for field dressing game to breaking down the meat back at camp. Right out of the box, I found it to be a handy little knife that looked more than capable of breaking down any deer from my neck of the woods. With a razor-sharp edge on a trailing-point profile blade and a grippy Santoprene handle. I found it, and the hunter orange sheath it came with would always be…

By Massad Ayoob Posted in #EDC There are reasons why the full-size 1911 pistol is often described as “iconic,” and the gun’s long and successful history on battlefields, in the streets and at pistol championships isn’t the only reason. It’s slim for its power level, an important dimension for both comfort and concealment. When properly built, it’s also remarkably accurate, and its trigger system and grip shape adapt well to a broad range of hand sizes. But you do not see it as often in holsters as you do striker-fired, polymer-framed pistols. Why is that? Is there…
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Coalition of veterans, investigators, and researchers unites to support awareness, historical research, and recovery efforts connected to America’s missing service members from the Vietnam War. Reno, Nev. (June 2026) – Task Force Garrison (TFG) and The Retired Investigators Guild (RIG) today announced a significant expansion of the Bright Light Continuum Initiative, a collaborative effort focused on honoring, locating, and accounting for American service members who remain missing from the conflicts in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. At a time when public awareness of the POW/MIA issue continues to fade from national attention, the Bright Light Continuum Initiative seeks…
We were surrounded by rock outcroppings that felt like another world. As we rode along the sandy and decomposed-granite singletrack, I looked up and noticed a rock drop. I turned the bars and pedaled up the steep, undulating rock face, which was full of elongated spines, cracks, and divots. As I pedaled the Aventon Current ADV, I noticed how completely silent the motor was, enabling me to absorb the surrounding sounds of nature and immerse myself in the location. Despite being quiet, the power delivery was strong, smooth, and punchy. The Auto Mode didn’t detract from the motor’s clean execution,…
In the age of big box retailers and online shopping, local, independent gear shops are an endangered species. When REI or Backcountry can always offer a lower price than the small gear store, how does it survive? Evan Maynard, founder of Gearhouse in Seattle, may have found the answer: build community. Part gear rental shop, part hangout space, and part trip organizer, Gearhouse makes the outdoors more accessible and more communal, proving the power of connection. What Is Gearhouse? When Maynard moved to Seattle, like many other transplants, he was excited to check out the outdoor opportunities there. There were…
