From gym laps to alpine objectives, the best climbing harnesses keep you secure. The best designs also keep you comfortable and organized without adding bulk or hindering movement. For this update, lead tester Miya Tsudome evaluated two new climbing harnesses over a three-month cycle from her home base in Bishop, California. She put them to the test while sport climbing in Owens River Gorge and during long trad days in Pine Creek Canyon. From hanging belays to racking cams and draws, she rigorously assessed fit, pressure points, gear loop accessibility, and all-day comfort The Black Diamond Solution remains our best overall pick for…

Hotspur Launches SOLDIER Line with Coin To mark the launch of the new SOLDIER brand at the recent British Army RSM conference, Hotspur commissioned an exclusive coin and pin badge set for the occasion. Each coin case was wrapped in a black outer card with silver hot foiling for the SOLDIER brand. We are tired of plain white card wraps that offer no branding or presence. The case inside was covered in a camouflage pattern to match the event. We believe this is yet another design first from Hotspur. The SOLDIER brand is hot foiled into the lid for a…
Chilean brand Rokum could have entered the U.S. market with a small line of sleeping bags and sleeping pads. Instead, it went with a rarer approach: combine them together. The Umak — part sleeping bag, part sleeping pad, and part couch — launched on Kickstarter last week. This three-season kit may provide enough use cases to entice summer campers looking for a flexible sleeping system — if not quite those seeking backcountry adventures. The bag’s bulkiness and weight make it an unlikely contender for long-distance backpacking. At $100, it’s a wild but affordable sleep kit. We don’t yet know how…
US Air Force Expands X10D EOD Program With Multi-Million Dollar Follow-On Award Skydio, the largest U.S. drone manufacturer and world leader in flying robots, today announced a follow-on multi-million dollar contract expansion with the U.S. Air Force (USAF) to further equip Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units with Skydio X10D systems. The award was issued through the Defense Logistics Agency’s Tailored Logistics Support Special Operational Equipment program in partnership with ADS, a provider of products, technology, and logistics solutions for the U.S. military. The contract more than doubles the scope of the initial USAF order announced in November 2025. The expanded…
Two public-access groups filed a lawsuit in Montana this week over corner crossing, one day after Lt. Gov. Kristen Juras told state lawmakers that the practice remains unlawful under Montana property and trespass law. On May 14, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (BHA) and the Public Land & Water Access Association (PLWA) filed suit in Lewis and Clark County District Court. The groups want a court to clarify whether people can legally step from one public parcel to another at a shared corner without touching private land. BHA said the lawsuit seeks to secure access to roughly 871,000 acres of public…

CRKT is celebrating nearly 30 years of their flagship folding knife, the M16, with a couple of new variations releasing today alongside a major social media campaign and 4-part docuseries about the Kit Carson-designed classic. It’s hard to believe but the M16 has been around for more than 25 years – it’s old enough to vote, drink, and even rent a car. The first version released in 1999, and was an immediate hit. Although Carson, a career military man, envisioned the M16 as a tactical piece, the design spoke to users from all walks of life, and in the years…
Camp shoes are all about relief. After a long day in hiking boots, ski boots, climbing shoes, or trail runners, the best pairs give tired feet room to breathe, recover, and stay comfortable around camp. For this update, lead testers Chris Kassar and Ryan Kempfer tested 10 new pairs over 10 months on hut trips, backpacking trips, Teton campouts, and post-hike town stops. We focused on comfort, warmth, sock compatibility, packability, traction, and real camp use across snow-covered decks, muddy campsites, hut floors, wet grass, and quick trips outside in the dark. The Teva ReEmber Camp Slip-On stands out as…
