The canyon walls blocked what little sunlight was left, and it was mostly dark when I stopped hiking to set up camp. I was about 2½ miles up Grizzly Creek, a tributary to the Colorado that snakes up a narrow arm of Glenwood Canyon. The first crisp notes of fall were in the air. As my body heat dropped and the sweat on my back turned icy, I dug in my pack for The North Face Breithorn Jacket and pulled it out. Within seconds, I was comfortable again. I set up my camp for the night, cozily swaddled in the…
RIGA, Latvia (18 November 2025) – Origin Robotics announced today that the Belgian Ministry of Defense has selected its AI-powered BLAZE interceptor as part of a newly approved 50 million euro national counter-drone package aimed at strengthening Belgium’s ability to detect, track and neutralize hostile unmanned aerial systems. The procurement follows several weeks of escalating drone incursions over airports, military facilities and critical infrastructure. Belgium’s decision comes amid significant pressure to reinforce its airspace security. The country has struggled to respond to repeated air traffic interruptions due to insufficient counter-drone capacity. In recent weeks Belgium had to call in support…
Starting January 2026, REI Co-op members can once again book travel packages through the outdoor retailer — if not quite the way they used to. REI members had long booked outdoor trips through the company’s Experiences program, which offered both international travel and day tours hosted by full-time employees or local, part-time guides. Many longtime customers were surprised when REI ended that program in January after offering it for 40 years, laying off hundreds of workers in the process. “It was a beloved part of our business,” Megan Behrbaum, manager of REI communications, told GearJunkie. “But running those type of…
There’s still time to apply for the 2026 Defender Trophy, but not much. Applications close on Nov. 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Up for grabs are a few epic adventures, the Defender Trophy North American Competition and the Global Trophy Competition. First, you must apply to get into the selection event in Canada. Then, you must win that event in August in order to move on to the global finals somewhere in Africa in October. Global adventure and community have been the fabric of the Defender brand’s DNA for decades, staying true to its roots that can be traced back…

Milipol 25 – B&T GL-06 Compact Grenade Launcher B&T has just introduced a Compact version of their GL-06 less lethal grenade launcher with a 200mm length barrel compared to the standard length barrel of 280mm. The shorter length only has a velocity loss of 1m/sec making it negligible. It also includes a new mount for the Aimpoint red dot optic which makes elevation selection easy. It also features an integrated backup iron sight. In the photo above you can see just how short the Command actually is, and seen below, how easily the telescoping stock is deployed with a simple…
Ruger in conjunction with Marlin has just launched the new Trapper Model 1894 chambered for the ubiquitous 10mm pistol cartridge. The Marlin Trapper Model 1894 is a compact lever-action carbine based on the classic Marlin lever-action blueprint. It uses a cold-hammer-forged 16-inch barrel with a stainless satin finish that matches its receiver. This new lever-action carbine is outfitted with receiver-mounted Skinner sights for a longer sight radius. As one of the latest products from Ruger Marlin, the new Marlin Trapper 1894 lever-action carbine has an upgraded fire control system. Its sear is now e-nickel Teflon-plated. Additionally, the sear notch geometry…
Climbing Colorado’s Mount Yale in February means embracing the cold head-on. The wind roared across the saddle at over 13,000 feet, the snow was knee-deep in places, and every exposed inch of skin burned from the chill. Normally, my toes would be the first to surrender, but not this time. The KEEN Revel IV Polar Boots, available in both Mid ($190) and High ($210) versions, kept them warm, dry, and comfortable the entire climb. Named GearJunkie’s Overall Winter Hiking Boot, the Revel IV Polar line sets the standard for warmth, comfort, and all-season reliability. My husband and I have been…

When adventure calls, you’d better pick up the phone or you might just miss the opportunity of a lifetime. In spring 2025, pro skier Amie Engerbretson woke up to the kind of text message that we all dream of getting: “Can you get to Alaska today?? We have an extra spot in the bird for you …” Engerbretson didn’t hesitate. “Oh hell yeah, I’m in,” she responded. With less than 12 hours to go, she packed her things, got on a plane, and made the trip to Great Frontier. She described what happened next as “48 hours of pure bliss.”…
