This article originally appeared on Explorersweb. The attempt last week to break the speed record on Everest by American trail runner Tyler Andrews created confusion and debate. It may have also crossed some red lines that might invalidate the record, if not on the books, at least among the mountaineering community. After months of silence about Patagonia’s lawsuit, the celebrity known as “Pattie Gonia” has finally responded: “I am afraid and I’m frustrated.” Wyn Wiley — an activist, drag queen, and social media influencer known as “Pattie Gonia” — was sued by Patagonia in January. The company later said that Wiley’s “near-copy of our name” would “pose long-term threats to Patagonia’s brand and our activism.” Wiley has now filed court documents denying those allegations. On Wednesday, she asked…

Wildfires are an inextricable element of land management, but the last few years have seen historically devastating fires: the massive Palisades fire in Los Angeles, the deadly blazes on Maui, and the largest-ever fire in Grand Canyon National Park. But scientists don’t make assumptions, and a new study reveals how both human-caused and naturally occurring wildfires have changed over time in the American West. The Study Amirhossein Montazeri and other authors published “Spatial and…
