Massive wildfires have become tragically common in the United States. But for national park lovers, the Dragon Bravo fire hurt more than most. The blaze that erupted on Grand Canyon National Park’s North Rim last summer devastated the park, burning nearly 150,000 acres and destroying over a dozen buildings, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge. After a prolonged closure, the North Rim reopened to visitors last week. That’s good news for those planning to visit the park during summer vacation — especially hikers. The North Kaibab Trail has reopened, allowing hikers to reach the canyon’s bottom by starting from the North…
By Clayton Walker Posted in #Gear To me, there’s nothing quite as sad as a well-made machine not being used in the role for which it was created. Life’s too short for Corvettes that only sit in climate-controlled garages, beautiful timepieces that won’t ever be strapped to a wrist, or “safe queen” 1911’s that never see trigger time. By the same token, I know far too many people who don’t carry or use the knife they want because they don’t want to muck it up or dull the factory edge. While today’s tips won’t do anything to…

When it comes to carry guns, are red dots really that much better than iron sights? I hit the range to find out.Just 13 years ago, when I authored the book, Handgun Training for Personal Protection, I included a chapter on red dot sights, where I wrote, “The future is coming. When it gets here, we will all shoot better and faster.” In some ways, reflex-style red dot sights have come a long way in the past 13 years, and today, many believe a self-defense handgun without one is unsuitable … or even antiquated. I’ve spent a good part of…

Col. Steven…
World records were expected to fall like trees at the inaugural Enhanced Games as drug-fueled athletes chopped them down. Instead, what the Games might have unexpectedly proven is that training with performance-enhancing drugs doesn’t guarantee wins or world records. Out of 22 events, only one world record was broken. Kristian Gkolomeev, clad in a futuristic, Enhanced-designed super suit, touched the finish of the 50m freestyle race at 20.81 seconds — 0.07 seconds under the standing world record. The accomplishment won him $1 million in prize money. “It was a great race, I had a lot of fun,” Gkolomeev said in…
