Texas Parks and Wildlife Department customers may want to check their accounts and lock down their credit after a breach tied to the agency’s hunting and fishing license system.

TPWD said Texas Cyber Command detected the breach, which involved the third-party vendor that handles hunting and fishing license sales for the department. More than 3 million customers may have had personal information exposed.

The Breach

The breach involved TPWD’s license sales system vendor, not an internal TPWD system, according to the department.

TPWD said an unauthorized actor may have accessed customer profile information connected to hunting and fishing license purchases. The agency said its own staff includes hunters and anglers who were also affected. License sales are still expected to open on schedule in August for the next license year.

What Information Was Exposed

TPWD said the exposed information may include:

  • Driver’s license information
  • Passport numbers, if customers provided them
  • Email addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Residential addresses

The agency said Social Security numbers, birth dates, and financial information, including credit card details, weren’t obtained. TPWD also said it found no evidence that customers under 18 were affected or that any specific group was targeted.

What Customers Should Do

Affected customers can get 1 year of free credit monitoring through Kroll. To confirm eligibility, customers can call TPWD’s incident line at 844-959-7123. The call center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CT.

Customers have until Sept. 14, 2026, to enroll. TPWD also recommends that customers review financial statements, check credit reports, consider a credit freeze or fraud alert, and avoid suspicious links or calls from anyone asking for personal information.
