The FBI said it had prevented a possible Halloween weekend terrorist attack in Michigan, but did not provide further details.

FBI Director Kash Patel made the announcement in a post on X.

“This morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend,” Patel wrote on Friday, Oct. 31. “More details to come. Thanks to the men and women of FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7 and crushing our mission to defend the homeland.”

NBC reported, citing law enforcement sources, that the FBI’s Detroit office had arrested a group of individuals who were purportedly planning an attack with a possible reference to Halloween.

Some of the arrests took place in Dearborn and Inkster, Mich., according to NBC.

The Detroit Free Press spoke to a woman who said she lives two doors down from a home that was searched in Dearborn. She told the paper that her husband heard five loud bangs early Friday morning and went outside to see FBI and SWAT personnel.

The Associated Press reported that FBI agents were seen going in and out of the Dearborn home. apparently collecting evidence.

Jordan Hall, a Detroit FBI spokesperson, said, according to the AP, that there was “no current threat to public safety.”
