NEED TO KNOW

  • An 18-year-old was fatally stabbed after police said he kicked a man’s shopping cart at a Georgia Walmart
  • The victim, identified as J.T. Schroeder, died days after the stabbing
  • Delano Middleton, 48, is charged with murder in connection with the incident

An 18-year-old Georgia man was stabbed to death after he purportedly kicked the shopping cart of another man — who is now charged with murder.

The Chatham County Police Department said it has arrested 48-year-old Delano Middleton after the 18-year-old was “stabbed during an altercation” at a Walmart on Oct. 23.

The victim was identified in a GoFundMe as J.T. Schroeder. He died days after the stabbing.

According to the police department, Middleton was exiting the Walmart when Schroeder kicked his shopping court.

Schroeder was found with multiple stab wounds and lacerations, police said.

Following Schroeder’s death, Middleton was charged with murder, according to Chatham County court records. It was not immediately clear if he has entered a plea and does not currently have an attorney listed.

Schroeder’s father, also named J.T., told WJCL that the police department’s claim that his son kicked the shopping cart doesn’t tell the full story.

“My son was never, ever confrontational unless he was confronted first,” the elder Schroeder told the outlet.

The father said when he was called about the incident, he rushed to the scene as quickly as possible.

“I got over there as fast as I could and saw blood everywhere,” he told WJCL. “He was literally stabbed over ten times until he finally bled out and died.”
