One person was killed and several others were seriously injured in a shooting in North Carolina.
At around 12:45 a.m. local time on Sunday, June 1, the Hickory Police Department responded to a report of “multiple persons shot” at a residence on Walnut Acres Drive in Mountain View, the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said in a news release shared on Facebook.
At least 12 people were struck in the incident, including one person who died, and another who was left in critical condition. Several other victims remain hospitalized, according to police.
“Sheriff’s investigators, along with investigators from Hickory Police Department and Special Agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, are at the scene of this incident attempting to establish a motive and identify those responsible,” the CCSO said.
No arrests have been made at this time.
The shooting took place at “a party at a residence,” Aaron Turk, a major with the sheriff’s office, said during a press conference, per WCNC.
He added that deputies arrived to find “multiple people had been shot and began rendering aid.”
There were around 100 people at the house when “one or more people started shooting,” ABC 11 reported, citing investigators.

The incident allegedly spilled out from inside the house onto the street and into the backyard of the residence and the neighbor’s yard, Turk told reporters.
“This does seem to be something that had some focus associated with that party,” he added.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the CCSO at 828-464-3112.
