After a hike and a hot meal, one of camping’s greatest pleasures is gathering around the campfire and sharing stories under the stars. For years, NEMO has produced a reclining chair that helps campers lean back and look up.

Now, the NEMO Stargaze EVO-X Folding Camp Chair makes it easier than ever to recline under a wide sky.

This new model in the brand’s line of Stargaze chairs introduces a self-deploying folding frame instead of a complex setup. Seriously, you just need to help it open wide until it locks into position. Then, you sit in it and lean back — or way back. It’s a much-needed upgrade to this longtime camping chair, which was near perfect except for its assembly.

The original NEMO Stargazer came together like a tent, requiring campers to put together a bungee-corded frame, and then insert two short poles into the chair in little pockets. It took a great deal of force to get those poles in place. But NEMO’s new design aims to skip that process altogether.

A Stargaze Recliner That Folds Up

The Stargaze was a hit back in 2018 and has been a strong seller ever since, with several updates along the way. Another spin-off, the NEMO Stargaze Recliner Luxury Chair, is our favorite rocking camp chair in our list of the Best Camping Chairs.

Like those, the EVO-X camp chair swings while upright or reclined. NEMO’s auto-recline suspension system adjusts the chair’s back angle based on your body weight. It has six points of contact for a supported recline that resembles a hammock, only with less swinging.

The EVO-X also updated the seat padding, with more cushion around the pressure points, a headrest, and a flexible backrest. Its folding, X-style frame is made from steel and can support up to 300 pounds. Flared footing gives it a sturdy base, even if the ground is slightly off-kilter.

Other EVO-X Features

Two built-in and flexible side pockets let you stash a drink in one and a pocket dump in the other. Trust us, you’ll want to store your keys and phone before indulging in a full recline.

When it’s time to pack, you can fold the seat forward, then pull a strap connected to both legs, and it should all come together. There’s even a buckle strap to hold it in place while you slide the reinforced carrying case over it.

The EVO-X’s steel frame has some heft, weighing 14 pounds, 12 ounces when packed. That’s why the carrying case comes with a shoulder strap.

The Stargaze EVO-X Folding Reclining Camp Chair could be another prized seat around camp or in the backyard. It should appeal to those who already love the Stargaze but want an easier setup, or anyone who has previously been on the fence about reclining camp chairs.

The EVO-X sells for $180 and comes in five colors: Goodnight Black, Smokey Olive, Ombre Blue, Deep Claret, and Brilliant Blue.
