(Photo/Epic Pass, Sarah McLear) Whether you’re team Epic or team Ikon, one thing’s for sure: Skiing is expensive. Both passes retail for over $1,000, and without one, a single day at many popular resorts can easily run a few hundred bucks. If you’re under 30, though, there’s good news for you and your wallet. Vail Resorts recently announced it will offer a 20% discount on 2026/27 Epic passes for those aged 13 to 30. Here’s what you need to know. The Discount The 20% discount drops the price of an Epic Pass to $869 and an Epic Local Pass to…
As I stood on the bow of my boat, the pitter-patter of light rain on the deck began to turn into a roar. I looked up from the point I was fishing and turned toward the entrance of the bay. A wall of rain was headed my way. It was time to button up the hatches on the SITKA Cat-5 jacket and bibs. The storm hit me like a freight train. What had begun as a bearable drizzle turned into an outright gnarly display of Mother Nature’s force. The wind picked up, and within seconds, my sunglasses were so soaked…

For those who know climbing history, the thought of a trad route reaching the sport’s most difficult grade is not just audacious — it’s downright terrifying. When climbing at the very edge of physical ability, most climbers opt for boulders or sport climbing, where you can throw yourself at a particularly difficult move over and over, secure in the knowledge of crash pads below, or bolts drilled directly into the rock. Not so with trad climbing. That requires you to place your own gear, like cams or nuts, into crevices as you ascend. The physical effort of placing gear —…

I rolled off the chairlift at 12,130 feet as wind ripped over the ridgeline and snow mist pelted my jacket. I slid my right foot under the straps of the Nidecker LT Supermatic binding, mashed my heel, and heard it click. All set. A nearby ski patroller watching advised me to “stay in the middle.” I nodded and then dropped into Pallavicini, a 1,329-vertical-foot, roughly 40-degree incline at Arapahoe Basin. As I made sweeping turns across a gully, the binding straps hugged my ankles and toes, and the baseplate responded but didn’t chatter. I dodged rocks and drops before arriving…
By Robert A. Sadowski Posted in #Guns Practically all shooters have experienced blowback. Not the type where something you did or didn’t do caused things to go sideways and have unintended consequences. No, I’m talking about the blowback operating system in rifle or pistol. You’ve fired a semi-automatic .22LR rifle or pistol, right? Well, nearly every one ever built uses a blowback system because it is simple, economical to manufacture, and needs little maintenance. Most large-format pistols and rifles chambered in 9mm also use a blowback operating mechanism. The power from a 9mm cartridge is more powerful…
