FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The process of writing Army doctrine, traditionally measured in years, is getting a 21st-century upgrade. Thanks to digital tools, some enabled by artificial intelligence, authors at the Combined Arms Doctrine Directorate are examining processes and gaining efficiencies without sacrificing their high standards for quality and precision. “We have had people ask us about using AI and large language models to speed up the doctrine development process for years,” said CADD Director Richard Creed, Jr. “So, when some of these tools became available the first thing we did was figure out their capabilities. That meant that we…
From mining to visitor access to wildlife management, public lands have been the source of ample controversy under the Trump administration. The latest debate involves immigration and federal and state lands in Texas. The Plan The Area According to the CBP website, a map shows that a “smart wall” will be built…

There’s exactly one way to guarantee an untracked powder run on a busy resort like Vail. You’ve got to get to the top under your own power, before the lifts open or after they close. With powder days few and far between this season, I clicked into my touring bindings and started striding uphill into the morning darkness. After an aerobic 90 minutes of climbing, I ripped skins, snapped my La Sportiva Sender boots into ski mode, and pointed it down the fall line. Fast, loose, and powerfully, I slashed down my favorite powder-coated glade, not a track in sight…
Here at GP, on the cutting edge of seemingly all that is new and modern in the product world, it’s tempting to get caught up in lean, light and streamlined design. That’s all well and good, but there are times, especially in the knife space, when we yearn for blades with real heft, the very weight of them conveying power that is deep, ancient, primeval. Kasnsept didn’t make the cut for the SHOT Show issue. I like Joyce, so I will try to post a 2026 summary at some point soon. Read the whole thing at GearPatrol.com https://www.gearpatrol.com/outdoors/kansept-sif/ Read…
Rain enveloped me as I stepped out my back door, hands laden with fishing rods. I hurried over to my boat, with gooey muck splattering all over my Strike Bigeye Boots and rain bibs. In a flash, everything was soaked. The rainy season had arrived, bringing excellent fishing but also awful conditions for getting out on the water. I loaded the rods in my rod box (at least I had the foresight to rig up indoors) and crouched in the mud hole that is my backyard to hitch the boat to the truck. I made quick work of the task…
