Almost exactly two years since the release of the original State and Union-branded version, KA-BAR is bringing the F01 into its main production lineup. The F01CV alters the design in key ways to make an affordable, hard-working EDC. We were first introduced to the F01 design, the first all-new folder from KA-BAR in 50 years, in the spring of 2024. It was positioned as a premium piece and eventually landed in the State and Union catalog – State and Union being a custom/special project shop for KA-BAR. The F01C currently available from State and Union has G-10 handles and a…

Political debates about the U.S. border wall usually center on immigration policy and national security. But the construction can also have major impacts on the environment. A new wall expansion planned by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would result in construction within two Arizona wilderness areas: Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. White House officials said the projects are necessary to “take control of the border.” But the plans have sparked backlash from conservation and parks advocacy groups concerned about negative impacts to wildlife on these federally protected lands. They question why it’s necessary…

My tent was on the snow, and the temperature had been hovering in the single digits for the past few hours. I had a 0-degree bag and was wondering if I’d need another layer to get through the night, at least comfortably. But I wasn’t worried about the cold coming up from the ground. This was my third single-digit night out with EXPED’s new Ultra 6.5R sleeping pad, and I knew what kind of insulation it offered. If you do any cold-weather camping, you know that some lightweight backpacking-oriented inflatable sleeping pads with a “heat-reflective” layer to boost the R-value…

If you have any information about the vandals who defaced a Native American petroglyph site near Moab, Utah, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) wants to hear from you. On March 22, the GCSO posted to Facebook seeking information that would help them track down the people responsible for etching into a Native American cultural heritage site northeast of town. The petroglyph site is near Tusher Tunnel, northwest of town, which is known to contain extensive ancient rock art. “It appears a Baja race team may have defaced the site by advertising contact information directly on the rock wall,” GCSO…

By Richard Johnson Posted in #Guns The main difference between rimfire and centerfire cartridges lies in where the primer is located and how the firing pin strikes it. Rimfire ammunition has a priming compound distributed around the inside rim of the cartridge base. Centerfire ammo has a separate primer component seated in the center of the case head. This fundamental design difference affects everything from reliability to reloadability to what calibers are even possible to manufacture. How Rimfire Ammunition Works A rimfire cartridge gets its name from the simple fact that the firing pin strikes the rim.…

With Recover Tactical’s S-PRO conversion kit, you can stock your Glock, Canik or Walther PDP.Ever since the advent of both the handgun and the longarm, people have been searching for the best way to bridge the gap between the two. The tree created in this quest for compromise has many branches and brought us to entirely new categories (looking at you, PDW). By Peter Suciu Posted in #History During the Second World War, the Imperial Japanese Navy’s Yamato was feared due to its immense size and power. She was the most heavily armed battleship ever built, with nine 18.1-inch (460mm) main guns, the largest ever mounted on a warship. Each shell weighed nearly 1.5 tons and had a range in excess of 26 miles. Yamato was also the heaviest warship ever constructed and the most heavily armored, leading to a belief she might be “unsinkable.” Still, today, she lies at the bottom of the East China Sea, about 180 miles…
