We stood at the top of a steep slope with tightly spaced trees. “Follow my ski tracks — we need to go either far left or far right near the bottom of this slope. That way, we can avoid cliffs,” my ski partner, Dane Tudor, said. Cliffs? I reached up and used my mitten to press the button on the ear pad of my ski helmet, pausing my music. I was testing the new POC Obex Connect. The sound quality was excellent, and the system was so easy to use that I was now hooked on listening to beats throughout…
Mikaela Shiffrin just showed the whole world why she’s still considered one of the best skiers alive. The 30-year-old athlete won a gold medal in the women’s slalom on Wednesday morning, dominating the event with a 1.5-second lead over her competitors. It was Shiffrin’s last event in the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, and her final chance to take home gold after a disappointing performance in the 2022 Beijing Olympics. This is Shiffrin’s third gold medal as a U.S. Winter Olympian. That puts her in the same category as snowboarder Shaun White and bobsledder Kaillie Humphries. But it’s actually her…
It is a month out yet, but Mark wanted me to highlight this show specifically. According to Mark, It’s located in Shepherdsville, KY, just south of Louisville, at the Paroquet Springs Conference Center which was the location of several quality NKCA sponsored shows in the past. An excellent facility and close to Interstate 65. KNIFE Magazine will be set up there and Mark will be manning the tables. The show is being promoted by Heather Voyles, who has been a supporter of ours almost as long as Bruce. Visit https://spiritofsteelknifeshow.com/ for more. Read the full article here

The videos from Kings & Queens of Corbet’s Couloir don’t do the competition justice. Watching as these athletes launch themselves out into space down into the gut of this iconic feature of Jackson Hole is a sight that’s hard to wrap your head around in person. From the bottom, the couloir looks much steeper. The athletes look like ants standing atop it. And when they come sailing over the edge, it’s hard not to let your jaw fall open. Kings & Queens is one of the most impressive live-action sports events I’ve ever witnessed. This year, the athletes really put…

After a massive storm deposited feet of snow across the Sierras, 15 backcountry travelers were caught in an avalanche near Truckee, Calif., on Tuesday. Six of them were successfully evacuated by search and rescue (SAR). According to reports on Wednesday, nine members of the party remain missing. That makes this the most significant avalanche burial incident in the U.S. in the last decade. The group included 11 skiers traveling with four guides from Blackbird Mountain Guides. They were returning from a hut trip near Frog Lake and were navigating avalanche terrain as they exited. The avalanche occurred around 11:30 a.m.,…
By Beyond Seclusion Posted in #Gear A topic that consistently attracts significant interest is self-defense, and the two most common subtopics are home defense and concealed carry. Based on my personal experience and conversations with folks, concealed carry seems to be of the most interest. Why? You don’t go out in public with your home defense gun, so it can be as large as a shotgun or carbine. You can’t really hide that on your person when going out to dinner. When we get into conversations on concealed carry, the #1 point of interest seems to be…
