CRKT is celebrating nearly 30 years of their flagship folding knife, the M16, with a couple of new variations releasing today alongside a major social media campaign and 4-part docuseries about the Kit Carson-designed classic.

It’s hard to believe but the M16 has been around for more than 25 years – it’s old enough to vote, drink, and even rent a car. The first version released in 1999, and was an immediate hit. Although Carson, a career military man, envisioned the M16 as a tactical piece, the design spoke to users from all walks of life, and in the years since, as CRKTs lineup continues to grow with collaboration models from dozens of makers, the M16 grew along with it, with new variations getting added to the catalog regularly.

Including today! CRKT is bringing out a pair of new, Veff serrated tanto M16 models today. They’re in the -10 subcategory, which means they’re EDC-sized with 3.03-inch blades made of 8Cr14MoV. The only difference between the two is the color, either black or tan, and you’ll notice that both versions are equipped with the Crossbar Lock, which means that they are full operable by both lefties and righties – and yes, the clip is reversible to either side.

These M16s are releasing in the midst of a month-long celebration of the knife model, and it’s really getting the celebrity treatment. First of all there is a four-part docuseries rolling out weekly, with two episodes out now. But CRKT is also turning to actual users for their M16 stories, both through a social media hashtag, #showmeyourm16, and a website submission form. Anybody who spends any time on the knife forums knows that knife tales are some of the best posts on there, so hopefully this campaign results in some cool M16 sagas coming to light.
