Mauna Kea in Hawaii is a 14,000-foot peak, and it presents a massive challenge for cyclists who want to ride to its top. It is the longest gravel bike climb in the world, ascending 14,000 feet over 50-55 miles on roads, dirt, gravel, and volcanic ash. Professional cyclist Hannah Otto decided she wasn’t just going to summit the peak on her bike — she was going to do it faster than anyone else ever had.

So, at the end of a long, busy, and very successful biking season, she packed her bags (and all of her bikes) and headed for Hawaii. Even for a decorated cycling veteran like Otto, Mauna Kea was no cake walk. She battled her way up the mountain, pushing past metal blocks and gritting through physical pain, driven solely by her passion for the sport.

The Scott Sports documentary about Otto’s FKT on Mauna Kea doesn’t just follow her journey to the top. It questions what happens when people pursue something that scares them, and when they discover they’re capable of even more.
