Jack Wolf is giving the beloved sodbuster pattern a fixed blade reincarnation next week with the drop of the Pioneer FixEDC. This knife turns a hard-working folding knife into a fixie fit for long days in the field.

The sodbuster pattern probably needs no introduction. Known by many names over the years, its stout, snub-nosed blade cuts one of the most recognizable profiles in the biz, and has earned its status as a workin’ man’s classic after decades of reliable performance. Jack Wolf is known for modern takes on the traditional staples, so we always knew we’d see a sodbuster pattern from them – and that materialized in the form of the Pioneer. Now they’ve surprised us with this fixed blade version of the classic user.

As a “FixEDC,” obviously Jack Wolf envisions this Pioneer as something that can be carried around day-to-day – and, with its 3-inch even blade, that’s a definite possibility. Thanks to the inherent rigidity of its full tang construction, the Pioneer can be thrown into more demanding scenarios than its non-locking, folding predecessor. And when it comes to the steel used here, well, there isn’t much you can’t throw at S90V; it’s designed to take a licking.

The arcing handle, with its flared, heavy butt end, is just as emblematic to sodbuster history as its blade, and of course it’s been carried forward here on the Pioneer FixEDC. Hold it any way you want, this profile will accommodate. As per usual, Jack Wolf has gone wild with the handle materials, with some extremely eye-catching variants on this premium piece; shoutout to the 80s Camo Carbon with its retro action movie look in particular.

The Pioneer FixEDC will be available on April 17 from authorized dealers.
