  • Deborah Meyer, 36, was stabbed 40 times in the chest on Feb. 14, 2025
  • Her husband Taylor Meyer claimed he was upset that he went “all out” for a Valentine’s Day celebration but Deborah appeared ungrateful, police alleged
  • Deborah was an award-winning nurse, according to an online obituary

An Indiana man has been convicted in the February 2025 murder of his wife following what he said was a failed Valentine’s Day plan and a suspected affair.

Taylor Meyer, 35, was charged days after his wife was killed in Jeffersonville, Ind. on Feb. 14 last year, according to online court records reviewed by PEOPLE.

Deborah Meyer, 36, was not named in the online court information, but has been identified in a probable cause affidavit previously cited by several local news outlets, as well as an online obituary.

According to the affidavit, Taylor admitted to police that he killed Deborah — complaining about having gone “all out” for a Valentine’s Day celebration but not feeling appreciated by her as she appeared ungrateful, WHAS 11, WLKY and WDRB reported.

Deborah briefly left home for 20 minutes that evening and upon her return, the couple got into an altercation when she refused to let him go through her phone, the affidavit states, per the outlets.

Taylor alleged she punched him before he choked her and stabbed her 40 times in the chest.

As he was attacking her, he called the man he suspected was Deborah’s lover, and had a chilling message for him: “It’s your … fault. You want to ruin my marriage and tear my family apart,” the affidavit states, per WDRB.

He then took photos showing Deborah lying on the ground unconscious and allegedly shared them in her family group chat claiming he had killed her. He shared the photos and the message with her friends as well, police alleged.

Deborah — an award-winning nurse, according to her obituary — was a mom to three kids, but it wasn’t immediately clear if Taylor is their father.

She was humorously remembered for her “inappropriate shenanigans,” per the obituary.

“Deborah’s fierce, unforgettable presence leaves a lasting impression of her contagious laughter, bright smile, limitless love, and unwavering loyalty,” it read in part. “She was strong-willed, full of life, and unapologetically herself.”

Taylor had pleaded not guilty to murder, online court records show. He was convicted on Thursday, Jan. 29, after a jury deliberated for two hours following a six-day trial, according to WHAS 11.

His sentencing has been scheduled for Feb. 20.
