A British man was sentenced to prison for the remainder of his life after being found guilty of forcing a woman to have sex with more than 100 men over a 30-year period.
Rodney Johnston, 67, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 16 years during a hearing at the Norwich Crown Court on Friday, Jan. 9, according to BBC, Sky News and a news release from the Norfolk Police.
Judge Alice Robinson called Johnston’s crimes “rape in all but name” during Friday’s hearing, BBC reported. “Going out became a byword for her being raped by strangers,” Robinson said while handing down Johnston’s sentencing, per the outlet.
Johnston was found guilty last September of forcing a woman to have sex with more than 100 men in remote, countryside locations over a 30-year period between 1994 and 2024, during which he also filmed and photographed the assaults, BBC reported at the time.
The outlet reported that local authorities discovered more than 30,000 images and videos documenting the woman’s abuse over the last three decades.
British prosecutors said Johnston used threats and intimidation to force the woman into having intercourse with the men, per the outlet.
Norfolk Police said the abuse consisted of “outings” in which Johnston would take the woman “to secluded woodland or pre-arranged hotel rooms where the victim would be made to engage sexually with multiple men.”

He was convicted on three counts of procuring a woman to have sexual intercourse by threats or intimidation, two counts of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent and one count of intimidation of a witness, according to Norfolk Police.
Authorities indicated they’ll continue to investigate Johnston’s crimes to determine if others should be held responsible.
“Our focus will now shift to establishing if any further offenses have been committed and if so, we’ll conduct a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and do everything we can to bring them to justice,” senior investigating officer Duncan Woodhams told BBC.

The woman, whose identity remained anonymous, also reportedly spoke out against Johnston in court for the first time prior to his sentencing Friday.
“For the first time in decades I am free,” she said, per Norfolk Police.
“I found myself in a situation I never imagined I would be in,” the victim added. “What I then went on to endure I would not wish on anybody. I had no voice, no choice.”
The woman called Johnston a “monster” who treated her like “nothing more than an object.”
“I felt dirty, sick, used, degraded, humiliated and terrified — but this became my norm,” she told the court. “I no longer know who I am. Now I must rebuild myself and I often feel lost and unsure where to begin. I feel anxious about the future, but for the first time in decades I am free.”
