NEED TO KNOW

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs has speaking gigs lined up for next week in Miami, prosecutors said, suggesting that he believes he will be given a light sentence
  • Prosecutors called the booked speaking engagements the “height of hubris”
  • Judge Subramanian said he agreed with federal sentencing guidelines that recommend a sentence of 70 to 87 months

Sean “Diddy” Combs has speaking gigs booked as early as next week, possibly suggesting he believes he is going to be given a light sentence and perhaps released, prosecutors said during the music mogul’s sentencing hearing.

“He has booked speaking engagements in Miami for next week,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy Slavik told Judge Arun Subramanian in court on Friday, Oct. 3. “That is the height of hubris, your honor.”

The revelation drew gasps from people in the courthouse.

“Even now at sentencing for his conviction for two federal crimes … he doesn’t fully grapple with how his actions got him here,” she continued. “His respect for the law is just lip service.”

Combs was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution at the conclusion of a grueling, high-profile federal trial.

Combs’ fate lies in the hands of Subramanian, who hinted at his thought process when he said in court Friday that he agreed with a Presentence Investigation Report, which recommended a sentence of 70 to 87 months — far longer than what the Bad Boy Records founder has hoped for.

Prosecutors had asked Subramanian to sentence Combs to 11 years in prison for his prostitution convictions, arguing that he was “unrepentant.”

Combs’ attorneys, on the other hand, had asked for no more than 14 months in prison, close to the amount of time the music mogul has already been behind bars.

Prior to sentencing, Subramanian denied a defense motion to toss Combs’ prostitution convictions, ruling that the government had successfully proved its case.

Combs has been behind bars since his arrest in September 2024, having been denied bail multiple times by different judges.
