Injured 1-Year-Old Found Abandoned at Scene of Car Crash After Female Driver Walks Away from Vehicle By Becca Longmire

A woman has been arrested after crashing her car in California before leaving an injured 1-year-old baby at the scene, authorities have said.

The California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Dublin office shared photos from the scene of the incident on Facebook on Tuesday, Oct. 28, writing that the abandoned baby will be “okay” after the driver walked away from the vehicle.

Without confirming the date of the crash, the CHP wrote, “Driver arrested after crashing and walking away! Thanks to a thorough investigation and questioning, this pedestrian was contacted on Interstate 580 after walking away from an earlier crash.” 

“The saddest part of the incident is a one-year-old child was left at the scene. Officers made contact, and after questioning the woman they backtracked to the scene and located an injured one year-old child,” the post stated.

Officers said, “Thankfully, the child will be okay,” adding that the woman in question, who hasn’t been identified, is now facing multiple charges.

The CHP didn’t go into too much detail about what caused the crash, but did warn the public about the dangers of driving under the influence. They also didn’t confirm the relationship between the woman and the child found at the scene.

The post read, “Driving under the influence causes major judgment issues-not only do you put yourself at risk, but you also endanger others.”

“Impairment is not limited to alcohol. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and cannabis products can all affect a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely,” the CHP added.

The message concluded, “The CHP reminds all drivers to make responsible choices behind the wheel — never drive under the influence. The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.”

The California Highway Patrol’s Dublin office did not immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
