NEED TO KNOW

  • Drew Mehalick-Headley allegedly told police she set her mobile home on fire on Aug. 27
  • She wrote a note on Facebook, apologizing to followers and saying she was “finally free”
  • One of her cats, seen in a video before the fire, died in the incident

A Pennsylvania influencer has been arrested on arson charges after allegedly setting her mobile home ablaze in an apparent attempt to die by suicide.

Drew Mehalick-Headley, known as “Drew Disaster” on several social media platforms where she collectively has more than 300,000 followers, was arrested after the Aug. 27 fire, according to authorities in Middletown, Penn., UpNorthLive, PennLive and the Daily Voice reported.

Middletown Borough police received several reports notifying them of social media posts Mehalick-Headley made, where she wrote a goodby message, UpNorthLive reported, citing court documents.

A screenshot of a Facebook post from Aug. 27, shared by the outlet, read, in part: “Please don’t be sad, as I’m finally free and no longer in pain, the way I wished to be for so long.

She ended the note with: “Goodbye friends.”

Middletown Borough fire officials responded to a fire at Mehalick-Headley’s mobile home the same day, where the 29-year-old allegedly admitted to setting the fire, per court documents cited by PennLive, UpNorthLive and the Daily Voice.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the social media posts were reported first, or the fire.

In a video posted on her Instagram around the same time, Mehalick-Headley was seen petting two of her cats, saying: “Please cremate me or bury me in the shroud. I love you all I truly do,” per authorities, UpNorthLive reported.

One of the cats died in the fire, police said, per all three outlets.

The fire also risked the safety of two trailers just a few feet from her house, officials said.

Mehalick-Headley’s content revolved around beauty tutorials, fashion, humor and lifestyle with Halloween and anime-inspired videos, PennLive reported. Her Instagram was not available as of Friday. Her YouTube bio reads: “Be Bold. Stay Weird. Love Yourself.”

In response to her social media posts understood to be suicide notes, several followers wrote messages of support, expressing how they had been inspired by her.

“Drew, I really hope you’re okay. I watched your videos as a teenager and you helped me grow so much confidence in being who I am,” wrote one follower, according to UpNorthLive.

“Your confidence to just be, your sense of fashion and just the way you put yourself out there, played a big part in the person I am today,” wrote another.
