  • Jimenez’s lawyer reportedly said a diary entry that “verified infidelity by the decedent” was read moments before the homicide
  • Jimenez is being held on $2 million bail

A Los Angeles-area firefighter is accused of beating his wife to death after reading her diary.

The Los Angeles Police Department said a man requested that officers conduct a welfare check on his wife at their home in North Hollywood.

Officers subsequently found a dead woman, identified as Mayra Jimenez, 55, who had suffered blunt force trauma.

Mayra Jimenez’s husband, Andrew Jimenez, 45, was identified as the suspect, according to the LAPD.

“[The] investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were in a marital relationship and that this was an incident of domestic violence,” the LAPD alleged in a press release.

Fox 11, KTLA and KABC reported that Andrew is a firefighter paramedic for the Glendale Fire Department.

Andrew was booked on suspicion of murder and is being held on $2 million bail, per the LAPD. It is not clear if he has been formally charged yet.

“Our office is currently in contact with law enforcement regarding a diary of the decedent, apparently read moments before the homicide, that verified infidelity by the decedent,” the attorney reportedly said.

The Glendale Fire Department, where Andrew has worked since 2008, said it had placed him on administrative leave and that he has been relieved from duty, according to the outlets.

KTLA reported that before her death, Mayra was a union representative for United Teachers Los Angeles.
