Two pedestrians were struck — one of them fatally — by the driver of an SUV in Queens on New Year’s Day, according to the New York Police Department.
The victims, both men, were crossing 102nd Street near 37th Avenue when they were hit by a white SUV traveling southbound on 102nd Street shortly after 4 a.m. Thursday, a police spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE.

One of the men was thrown into a parked unattended Honda Pilot and pinned underneath the SUV, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other man, who is 24 years old, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he remains in critical condition, the spokesperson said.
The driver did not remain at the scene.
The victims’ names have not been released, and the deceased man’s identity is pending family notification, per police.
No arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon. The investigation remains ongoing.
