NEED TO KNOW

  • Sean “Diddy” Combs was in court on Friday, Oct. 3, for his sentencing
  • His defense team played a 12-minute long video for the judge showing him engaging in community service and spending time with his family
  • Prosecutors have asked for a sentence of 12 years

Sean “Diddy” Combs sobbed in court on Friday, Oct. 3, as his defense team played a 12-minute long video in an apparent bid to cast him in a positive light in front of a Manhattan judge.

He appeared in the courtroom wearing a cream sweater over a collared shirt and dark slacks, nearly three months to the date of his conviction on charges of transportation to engage in prostitution.

Prosecutors have asked the judge to sentence him to 11 years, claiming in a sentencing memorandum that he is “unrepentant” about his actions.

His defense team has requested he receive a sentence no more than 14 months.

In court on Friday, his defense team played the 12-minute long video for the judge, showing Combs spending time with family and giving back to the community.

The video montage shows Combs giving motivational talks to children, sharing fun moments with his kids and running a marathon to raise funds for education.

He became emotional as the video was played. At one point, his lawyer Brian Steel handed him a tissue and Combs appeared to be wiping away tears.

In the build-up to Combs’ sentencing, the judge had received a trove of letters from the defendant’s children in support of him, as well as letters from those who testified against him, expressing fear of retaliation.

“I know that who he was to me — the manipulator, the aggressor, the abuser, the trafficker — is who he is as a human,” Combs’ ex-girlfriend and the prosecution’s star witness Casandra “Cassie” Ventura wrote in a filing submitted this week.

“He has no interest in changing or becoming better. He will always be the same cruel, power-hungry, manipulative man that he is,” she wrote.

While he was acquitted on the more serious charges of sex-trafficking and racketeering, allegations against the media mogul continue to surface, including a lawsuit filed just last week by his former stylist who is accusing Combs of physical and sexual abuse, human trafficking and sexual orientation violence. Combs has denied the allegations.
