NEED TO KNOW

  • A New Jersey father was stabbed to death in an alleged attack his family says happened while he was teaching his three young boys how to ride bikes
  • The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced charges against Davon Holloman, who they say stabbed father Jimmy Chase to death during the altercation
  • Chase is the father of Holloman’s girlfriend’s children, according to Mercer County authorities

A New Jersey family is “devastated” after a father was attacked and killed while outside teaching his three young children how to ride bikes earlier this month.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office detailed the deadly Jan. 8 incident that allegedly played out in front of the victim’s kids while announcing charges Wednesday against the suspect, Davon Holloman.

Holloman, 35, has been charged with first-degree murder, third- and fourth-degree weapons offenses and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree, the prosecutor’s office said.

Authorities allege Holloman “was involved in a physical altercation” with the victim, 40-year-old Jimmy Chase, who officials say is the father of Holloman’s girlfriend’s children.

“Most of the altercation was captured on a cell phone video and his three small children can be seen trying to break up the fight,” the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Chase’s sister Latoya Chase called the alleged incident “senseless” in a GoFundMe she set up to help her brother’s family, adding that the father of three was in the middle of teaching his kids how to ride bicycles when Holloman allegedly attacked him.

“While outside teaching his three sons how to ride their bikes, Jimmy was attacked,” the victim’s sister wrote. “This senseless act has left our family devastated and his children without their loving father.”

The victim’s sister added that her brother “was a good man who played a major role in our community.”

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said Holloman was arrested and charged on Jan. 22. Officials said “the investigation is ongoing” as of this week while Holloman remains in custody.
