  • Chris Davison alleges he was attacked after a man tailgated him for miles while he was with his young children
  • His 8-year-old son tried to stop his bleeding with a dinosaur sticker while his 6-year-old daughter pleaded passersby for help, Davison said
  • Police arrested Noah Kane in connection with the incident

A California man is calling his two children heroes after they reportedly helped save his life after the three of them were caught in a road-rage incident earlier this month.

Chris Davison is recovering from multiple stab wounds following the Oct. 17 incident, his family said in a GoFundMe.

Davison, 38, was on his way to a Halloween festival in Ramona, Calif. with his 6-year-daughter and 8-year-old son, who he said helped save him after he was allegedly stabbed multiple times, local outlet 10 News reported.

A close family friend who was around also “did everything he could to save Chris,” the victim’s wife said in the fundraiser.

Noah Kane was arrested in connection with the incident, the California Highway Patrol confirmed to PEOPLE in a statement on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Davison was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, per the statement.

Davison alleges on the evening of the incident, as they were driving on a San Diego County interstate, a black pickup truck “revving the motor” tailgated him for several miles before swerving him off the road twice, according to 10 News.

Davison said that when he got out to see what was going on, Kane, who had also come out of his vehicle, attacked him with a knife, CHP said in their statement to PEOPLE.

“Not one word, just a demonic stare in this man’s eyes,” Davison said of the encounter, per 10 News.

As Davison tried to defend himself, covering his head, Kane allegedly began stabbing him multiple times on his side before driving off. Davison said his children immediately got into life-saving efforts, despite being terrified: his son used a dinosaur sticker and phone charger cord to help stop the bleeding, while his daughter pleaded for help.

“In a princess dress, hanging out the car, yelling for somebody to please stop,” Davison recalled.

Davison asked his son to find any kind of tape, including the dinosaur sticker. When the boy realized the sticker wasn’t enough, he “went through the vehicle, front to back” and found a phone charger cord to help stop the bleeding.

The children also took off their own sweaters to try and stop the bleeding, he said, per the outlet.

“My son screaming, ‘Stay awake, dad. Stay awake,'” Davison recalled.

Davison’s friend, who was nearby on a motorcycle, also rushed to his aid, he said, according to the outlet. That friend cleaned the blood off Davison’s phone and called 911.

Kane has pleaded not guilty to several charges, which include attempted murder, 10 News reported. His attorney information was not immediately available in online court records.

CHP did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for further information about the charges against Kane.
