Child's Head Had to Be ‘Medically Glued’ Back Together After Daycare Worker Wounded the 'Wriggling' 4-Year-Old By Samira Asma-Sadeque

A childcare worker in New South Wales, Australia has been convicted for attacking and severely wounding a 4-year-old in August.

The 24-year-old woman, who has not been publicly named, was arrested on Sept. 16 and charged with assaulting a child, the New South Wales police said in a statement at the time.

She pleaded guilty to recklessly wounding the child, ABC.net.au reported this week.

Their investigation began a day after the August incident in the city of Bathurst in southeastern Australia, police said. The worker forced the child onto a bed during the attack, and the child’s head struck the edge of the bed and suffered a 2-centimeter laceration, per the statement.

Police said the woman was trying put the child to midday rest as the victim “was wriggling and obviously avoiding the accused’s attempts to lay him down,” ABC.net.au reported.

The woman then held the child’s arms and forcefully pushed him down, resulting in the child hitting the plastic corner of the bed, per investigators.

The “sufficient force” caused massive bleeding to the child’s head, with blood seeping into the stretchers, police said — adding that despite the grievous injury, the worker restrained the child for 53 seconds. She reportedly had not noticed the bleeding.

The worker eventually notified another worker onsite, but it wasn’t until the boy’s father picked him up that he was taken to the hospital, the outlet reported.

The child’s head had to be “medically glued” back together, police said, per the outlet.

The worker was terminated following the incident and arrested a month later.

She is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date.
