Cassie’s Lawyers Speak Out After Diddy’s Sentencing: ‘Nothing Can Undo the Trauma’ By Ingrid Vasquez, Elizabeth Rosner, and Danielle Bacher

Casandra “Cassie” Ventura’s lawyers are speaking out after Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to 50 months in prison.

On Friday, Oct. 3, the former music mogul was sentenced to more than four years in prison following a nearly two-month federal trial that ended with him being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July. He was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

Combs was given credit for time served and will serve a prison term of 36 months, or three years. Judge Arun Subramanian also sentenced Combs to five years of supervised release and imposed a $500,000 fine, the maximum allowable fine.

“While nothing can undo the trauma caused by Combs, the sentence imposed today recognizes the impact of the serious offenses he committed,” Ventura’s attorneys Douglas Wigdor and Meredith Firetog (Wigdor LLP) said in a statement.

“We are confident that with the support of her family and friends, Ms. Ventura will continue healing knowing that her bravery and fortitude have been an inspiration to so many,” their statement continued.

In November 2023, Cassie filed a lawsuit in New York against Diddy, whom she dated on-again-off-again from 2007 to 2018, accusing him of sexual assault and physical abuse.

While the two settled one day after she filed the lawsuit, a 2016 video surfaced of Combs allegedly physically assaulting the “Me & U” hitmaker at a hotel.

The former rapper would then face multiple other sex crime allegations, leading to his Los Angeles and Miami homes being raided by Homeland Security Investigations in March and his arrest that September.

Ventura, while eight months pregnant with her third child, testified during Combs’ sex trafficking trial and gave raw insight into their former relationship and the alleged “Freak Off” sex parties.

Days after completing her multiday emotional testimony, Ventura welcomed her third baby, a boy, with husband Alex Fine.

The singer would go on to express her fear of “swift retribution” by Combs and his associates in a letter to the judge shortly before his sentencing, asking him to consider “the many lives that Sean Combs has upended with his abuse and control.”

Combs wrote a letter to the judge saying he was “dead wrong for putting my hands on the woman that I loved,” saying he was “sorry for that and always will be.” He also apologized to her in court on the day of his sentencing, expressing that he didn’t take the “harm” he caused Combs “lightly.”

Fine, meanwhile, reacted to Combs’ sentencing by sharing a letter he wrote to domestic abusers and survivors on his Instagram Stories from May 2024.
