A Connecticut woman’s body was found dismembered and stored in more than a dozen trash bags when police showed up at her home in March, and now her son has been charged with attempted arson.

Authorities showed up at the West Haven home for a welfare check on March 24, after Theodore Lloyd allegedly told police that his 70 year old mother, Tina Lloyd, had been missing for two months, according to the New Haven Register, NBC Connecticut and WFSB, who cited the West Haven Police Department.

When police searched the home, they noticed a smell and found 14 to 16 trash bags in an upstairs bedroom. Police identified the body parts to be Tina, who they said was so badly decomposed that they needed to use DNA to identify her, the outlets reported.

Throughout the house, police allegedly found indications that someone had tried to burn the home down. They also found cutting utensils and an electric chainsaw at the home, according to the local outlets.

Police added that they found plastic bags with evidence as well as receipts and surveillance from a local Walmart and Home Depot that showed Theodore allegedly leaving with the items they recovered, WFSB reported.

“I have never seen anything like this in my 22 years in the police department,” Sgt. Scott Allard of the West Haven Police Department said to the outlets during a news conference. The cause of Tina’s death is still under investigation.

West Haven Police arrested Theodore on April 21 and charged him with attempted arson. They believe he acted alone and say more charges will be filed, according to NBC Connecticut.

Theodore is currently being held on $1 million bond and is due back in court on May 27, the outlets reported.
