4 Family Members Found Fatally Shot With Kids, 7, 10, 12, Hiding Inside Closet By Samira Asma-Sadeque

Four members of a Georgia family were found shot to death in a residence after a 12-year-old, who was found hiding in the closet, called 911 in the middle of the night last week.

Police responding to a report of gunshots found the four dead in a Lawrenceville, Ga., home early in the morning on Friday, Jan. 23, the Gwinnett County Police said in a statement.

The deceased were identified as Meemu Dogra, 43, Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38.

Police promptly arrested Dogra’s husband, 51-year-old Vijay Kumar, on a slew of charges, including malice murder and felony murder, per the statement.

Police say the 12-year-old child of Kumar and Dogra called 911 around 2:30 a.m. on Friday to report the shooting. The child was found hiding in a closet along with young relatives, who are 7 and 10.

Further investigation revealed that Kumar and Dogra got into an argument at their Atlanta home and then traveled to the Lawrenceville home, where the couple’s relatives Cumar and the Chanders lived, along with the 7-year-old and the 10-year-old.

All three children were found physically unharmed when police arrived at the scene.

Police said they do not know what the argument was about or why Kumar and Dogra went to the Lawrenceville residence, but believe the killings are “domestic-related.”

Kumar was located nearby the residence and arrested shortly afterwards on four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of felony murder, four counts of malice murder and three counts of child cruelty.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he has entered pleas or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf. Gwinnett County online court records did not show his information as of noon Monday.
