A North Carolina teenager faces criminal charges after authorities allege he was driving a speeding car that crashed into another vehicle, killing a mother and daughter.
Jason Anthony Scott, 18, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, according to a press release shared by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
Officers responded to the crash scene on Ardrey Kell Road in Charlotte around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025. When they arrived, they found Lorin Elizabeth Manley unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a damaged 2011 Honda CR-V. Her backseat passenger, Gloria Manley, was also unconscious. The pair were ultimately pronounced dead at the scene by medics, police said.
Family members told WCNC Charlotte that a 12-year-old passenger survived the crash but is recovering from multiple broken bones and collapsed lung. A GoFundMe campaign created by loved ones confirmed that the girl’s mother and grandmother were killed in the crash, and WBTV reports that Lorin was the girl’s mother while Gloria was her grandmother.
The 12-year-old’s older sister is now “left to support” her through this “unimaginable loss and the challenges of recovery, all while grieving the loss of their mom and grandma,” the fundraiser says. It notes that the family was returning home from a shopping trip at the time.
Scott, who was behind the wheel of a 2013 BMW 335i, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. His car had “heavy front-end damage,” the release states.
“Speed is suspected to be a contributing factor for this crash,” police said. “Mr. Scott was screened for impairment and was found not to be impaired. Impairment is not suspected for Ms. Lorin Manley, but the toxicology report is pending.”

According to court documents cited by WCNC, Queen City News, and WGHP, witnesses claimed they saw the BMW traveling at speeds higher than 100 mph in a 45 mph zone.
On Tuesday, Scott appeared in court and was handed down a $300,000 secured bond, the outlets report. A judge reportedly revoked his driver’s license and ordered him not to operate a motor vehicle.
It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
