RoseCraft Sets Up Camp, Jack

We’ve got the latest RoseCraft slipjoint model to cover this week: the Birchfield Camp Jack has just landed with dealers. The Birchfield sees RoseCraft bringing their newfound focus on stainless steel onto a classic clip-bladed workhorse.

A note on that steel choice, first of all. For a long time, RoseCraft’s steel of choice was D2 – a fine and proven steel for sure, and a formula that has found its way onto everything from gigantic fixed blades to pocket-sized traditional knives, but one that is technically semi-stainless. While not so rust-prone as what is typically called a “carbon steel,” D2 could still face challenges in wet, humid, or otherwise unfavorable conditions, and thus needed a tad more care than its stainless stablemates.

Hence RoseCraft’s transition to 14C28N. Like nearly all steels, this stuff can still rust, but it packs enough chromium for a full stainless designation and rock-solid edge retention for a blade spec’d for the work the Birchfield Camp Jack aims at. Its 2.9-inch clip point can slice through a sizable spread of daily chores, and as the name suggests it could even be a backup edged tool the next time you’re out tramping through the wilds.

The Birchfield Camp Jack is releasing in two different cover options, with nary a wood or synthetic material in sight; only two different colors of jigged bone: green or brown. The cigar-style handle is bolster’d at both ends, and this non-locking knife opens with a long pull. The RoseCraft bomb shield makes another appearance on the show side scale, and the company has the weight listed as 2.9 oz. for this particular jack knife.

It is available now.
