We’ve been in a bit of a fixed blade mood since we covered some the new models in that genre from Civivi/We and TOPS – and today we’re looking at one from Boker, the outdoors-focused Overnighter.

Florian Prößl is the custom maker behind the Overnighter design. Prößl works under the shop name FP Knives, and unsurprisingly the man has a way with fixed blades. Like many who focus on the fixies, this Bavarian bladesmith has quite an extensive portfolio, rife with variations, and it’s easy to get distracted by the many handsome pieces he has created – but if you manage to stay focused you’ll notice that some of Prößl’s customs certainly resemble the Overnighter.

Perhaps its most distinctive feature is the 4.57-inch blade. The very wide stance gives it an august presence, perfect for moving contemplatively through the woods, but there almost spike-like jimping and the low but noticeable harpoon swedge imbue this workhorse with some unexpected, but most certainly welcome, attitude. The prototype images on Boker’s website (and used in our article here) say the blade is 440C, but the final product is actually made from D2 semi stainless.

Looking at a tree burl in nature, you would never think that it could be turned into anything beautiful. It looks like a tumor or cyst on the side of a tree, but when it’s been lopped off, sanded, sculpted, and finished, burl looks absolutely beautiful. There’s something about it that particularly resonates with outdoors blades and that’s what Prößl and Boker have settled on for the Overnighter’s scales. A simple leather sheath completes the package here. The Overnighter weighs 6.77 oz.

It is available now.
