A Kula Cloth, an anti-microbial, washable pee cloth, makes the simple yet messy task of peeing in nature cleaner and far more pleasant.
Since Anastasia Allison started it in 2018, the brand has grown from a small cottage shop into a booming business, landing in major stores like REI. What Is a Kula Cloth?
Everyone has to pee in the woods, and there’s nothing worse than drip-drying and getting your underwear and pants damp — a foolproof recipe for chafing. The Kula Cloth solves this with an ingenious design.
One side is soft and absorbent that you wipe yourself with, and the other side is waterproof to keep your hand clean. You can choose any number of artistic designs to go on the waterproof side, from rocks to colorful mountains to photos of pikas.
It has a handy strap with a snap to easily attach it to the outside of your pack. It’s made with an anti-microbial, silver-infused fabric to keep it from getting stinky. Why Use a Kula Cloth?
At first thought, a reusable pee cloth may seem unnecessary. But what are you going to do? Drip-drying is terrible, and using toilet paper means you have to carry it with you for the rest of your hike. You could use a bandana or towel, but after a few bathroom breaks, those aren’t exactly sterile.
I’ve tried a pee funnel before, but those are messy and stinky, and you still need to wipe yourself. (Fun fact: I once tripped while using a Shewee and hiked with pee all over myself for another 15 miles.) A Kula Cloth is the most hygienic, eco-friendly, and zero-waste–friendly option.
