The Thermos brand is asking customers to stop using certain food jars and multi-use vessels that lack a pressure relief valve, after receiving several reports of lids “forcefully ejecting” if stored with contents for extended periods. Thermos is offering replacement lids with pressure relief stoppers and/or entirely new vessels, depending on the model.

The recall involves three specific models and more than 8 million total vessels: about 5.8 million food jars and 2.3 million multi-purpose bottles. To date, Thermos has received 27 incident reports, some including laceration injuries, and three reports of customers suffering permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.

Thermos Recall: Food Jars & Bottles

The following products are included in this recall:

  • Thermos Stainless King Food Jars: Model numbers SK3000 and SK3020 (manufactured before July 2023).
  • Thermos Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles: Model number SK3010.

Stoppers on the recalled Stainless King Food Jars and Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles do not have a pressure relief in the center. The food jars include the 16-ounce (SK3000) and 24-ounce (SK3020) sizes, while the recalled bottle is 40 ounces. Model numbers are printed on the bottom of the containers.

Affected units retailed in stores and online from March 2008 to July 2024. Owners should exercise caution when handling these vessels to check model numbers. If you believe you are included in this recall, follow the instructions on Thermos’ website to obtain a new stopper lid or vessel.

For recalled food jars, consumers will be asked to throw away the stopper and send a photo of the disposed stopper to Thermos. For the recalled 3010 Bottles, consumers will be asked to return their recalled bottles to Thermos using a prepaid shipping label.

More information is available via the product recall announcement, or you can contact Thermos customer support for next steps at 662-563-6822.
