GoPro is on a mission: blend gritty adventure with sophisticated cinematography. Flawless imagery produced in the far reaches of the backcountry is a tall order; GoPro says they’ve delivered.

Welcome to GoPro’s newest generation of cameras: the MISSION 1 Series.

This family line features the only cameras with a 1-inch sensor capable of shooting 8K60 and Intelligent Capture Modes for auto-optimizing settings no matter the scene. Of course, they also maintain GoPro’s lifeblood: durability, waterproofness, and stellar stabilization.

Expanding Territory: GoPro Brings Action to Cinema

Don’t assume that GoPro can’t hang with the surfers, climbers, and dirt-bikers of the cinematic world anymore; their departure from their famous HERO action-camera formula is for a good (read: crystal-clear, high-resolution, killer low-light imagery) reason.

The Mission 1 Series offers three options, starting at $599: the MISSION 1, MISSION 1 PRO, and MISSION 1 PRO ILS. (If you’re a GoPro Subscriber, you can get it for $100 less.)

GoPro’s MISSION 1 Series aims to connect filmmakers, vloggers, content creators, and photographers with cameras that fit their environment, rather than coddling an expensive and delicate camera setup. GoPro calls the MISSION 1 Series the smallest, lightest, and most rugged 8K and 4K Open Gate cinema cameras in the world.

These cameras are truly meant for the up-and-coming content creator and professional cinematographer alike: the 8K and 4K Open Gate recording captures a taller frame for greater versatility in editing for different platforms. That means you can get great angles for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and the big screen with the same shot.

The MISSION 1 PRO ILS (available fall 2026) includes a Micro Four Thirds interchangeable lens mount, which allows you to interchange MFT lenses and compatible adapters for full creative control. (Check out the promo video shot entirely with the MISSION 1 Series for proof.)

Whether your content hangs out underwater, in the trees, or in the flame-filled kitchen of your favorite taco truck, the MISSION 1 Series keeps stability, clarity, and unmatched imagery in the forefront, no matter how rough the terrain may get.

Professional Upgrades Meet the Tried-and-True Rugged Base

GoPro isn’t giving up its rough-and-tumble roots anytime soon. The MISSION 1 Series may look sophisticated, but each camera retains core GoPro traits like waterproofness, rugged construction to survive drops and bumps, and advanced stabilization for every kind of terrain.

Couple that with 8K shooting ability, the ability to crop up to 2X for true 4K resolution, push up to 4X digital zoom without losing sharp details, and record up to 240Mbps bitrate, and you have the necessary tool to capture cinematic gold.

In fact, the MISSION 1 Series focused on keeping filmmakers on-scene longer: larger Enduro 2 batteries and improved thermal management (which protects the vital camera pieces from extreme heat and cold) aid in extending recording times.

The MISSION 1 Series cameras utilize new 1-inch sensors and GP3 processors, which produce significantly improved image quality and low-light performance. If your stage revolves around natural light rather than studio space, this will significantly help production quality in the field.

The compact sizing coupled with professional-quality images makes these cameras perfect for backcountry athletes, expeditionary filmmakers, travel content creators, and overland enthusiasts. (And the starting price of $599 helps with the travel budget, too.)

Intelligent Capture for Top-Tier Content

Much like longer battery life, crisper images, and faster processing, GoPro’s MISSION 1 Series includes another bonus: intelligent Capture Modes that utilize advanced imaging algorithms powered by the GP3 Processor.

These automatic setting adjustments vary based on shooting conditions: in lower light, the technology adjusts to bring out light sources (like a campfire) and separate the shadows from the background (like a cowboy’s silhouette against a midnight blue sky). In bright conditions, it helps ease the image away from white-out conditions.

All said, this AI-driven scene optimization helps newer users capture professional-looking footage, without spending valuable shooting time adjusting the technical settings.

Whether your content hangs out underwater, in the trees, or in the flame-filled kitchen of your favorite taco truck, the MISSION 1 Series keeps stability, clarity, and unmatched imagery at the forefront, no matter how rough the terrain may get.

See for yourself, and welcome to a new generation of GoPro.
