Expert interview with Martin Bentz, CEO of Outlast Technologies Modern soldier systems are becoming more advanced, more protective and more complex. But with every additional layer of equipment, the microclimate close to the body becomes more critical. Heat build-up, perspiration, cold bridges and loss of comfort can all affect endurance, concentration and operational readiness. Outlast Technologies addresses this challenge with textile technologies designed to support thermal balance, comfort and performance in demanding environments: Outlast® Temperature Regulation and Aersulate® high-performance insulation. In this interview, Martin Bentz, CEO of Outlast Technologies, explains why thermal comfort is becoming an increasingly important factor in…

There’s a new model joining Jack Wolf’s Gateway series next week – the Stockman. The ergonomics and blade shape hew close to the core concepts of this historical pattern, but are rendered in the expected modern, but affordable, materials of the Jack Wolf Gateway series. The Stockman pattern earned its name from its original clientele. It began to circulate particularly among cattlemen, who appreciated having a compact cutting tool for long days on the farm or trail. Like many traditional knife patterns, a Stockman’s most recognizable feature is its handle design: a dogleg shape, and here on the Jack Wolf…

Eat My Brains: The name of a legendary rock slab in the trail network of Rossland, British Columbia. It starts with a narrow, loose talus entrance into a 30-foot rock roll, down a naturally rusted gold-and-copper iron hat. Essentially, those minerals are embedded in a volcanic sedimentary ore that originally attracted prospectors to Monte Christo in the 1890s. As I entered the loose talus, the bike slightly lurched forward as the motor engaged in Turbo, making the technical entrance that much more difficult. I gently tapped the brakes and controlled the bike. I stabilized and composed myself as I rolled…

When it comes to RVs and travel trailers, there is arguably no name more recognizable and beloved than Airstream. While many of us dream of hooking up a brand-new double-axle Airstream to our vehicle and hitting the road, not everyone has the six-figure budget to buy one or the full-size truck to actually pull it. That’s why Airstream is introducing a new 17-foot version of its World Traveler single-axle travel trailer, the 17RB, which it announced on Thursday. The World Traveler model sits between Airstream’s Bambi and Caravel models and offers a classic Airstream experience in a more accessible, easy-to-tow,…
By Clayton Walker Posted in #Gear Perhaps it’s a consequence of growing up in a consumerist society, but most of us become in some way conditioned to think that upon encountering any problem, our first and best course of action is to buy something to deal with it. Don’t get me wrong — a high-quality firearm and accessories are absolute musts for effective self-defense. However, they are not the only part of the equation. Where the shooting sports are concerned, the market is now filled with a number of admittedly excellent products that solve clear problems and…
