The best duffel bag will support your next three-month foray through Patagonia or a quick visit to your in-laws. Duffels are versatile pieces of luggage for anything on your travel tick list. Any duffel bag worth its salt needs to meet certain metrics. They must be sturdy enough to protect and transport hefty loads of technical gear, yet light enough to merit use on an expedition. They should exhibit thoughtful organizational features, and have to be packed and unpacked with ease. Those are big shoes to fill, and with so many top brands churning these workhorses out, it can be…

Efforts to grow drilling on federal lands experienced a major setback in Wyoming last month. A district court judge ruled that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) violated environmental law when it approved 5,000 oil wells spanning 1.5 million acres in the state. In a win for environmental groups, the BLM has to go back to the drawing board to continue this project. The Plan In 2020, the BLM, led by then–Department of the Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, announced that it had approved the Converse County Oil and Gas Project to develop 5,000 new oil and natural gas wells in…
Buck has introduced two new modern folders into its catalog for the spring. The Ferrox and Nomad share materials and have similar dimensions, offering users two different options for a sub-$100 Buck user. 698 Ferrox We won’t pretend to understand Buck’s – or indeed, any other knife company’s – numbering system, but we don’t have to do to be able to appreciate the lines of the Ferrox itself. This is Buck’s version of the modified wharncliffe, a very popular profile for a modern EDC. At 3.25 inches, it is sized to handle what can be safely called the “standard” everyday…
FORT CARSON, Colo. — High winds tear across the tactical range — tumbleweeds pass and debris swirls but a tactical drone maneuvers steadily through the sky, locked on course and unmoved by the elements. This moment reflects the culmination of three demanding weeks of training. Green Berets from the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) completed an intensive training program from Feb. 9 to 27, conducting exercises both in the classroom and across multiple tactical ranges on Fort Carson. The Advanced Drone Course taken by the Soldiers is designed to expand operational capabilities and enhance small unmanned aerial system employment across…

Learn More Ford has just recalled 2.3 million vehicles in three different campaigns that could leave you unable to see while going forward or in reverse. The Blue Oval might have hoped for an easier 2026, after 2025’s record-setting number of recalls. But so far, it’s not panning out that way. Camera Problems on 1.7 Million Ford & Lincolns Two of Ford’s latest recalls involve the rearview camera. It applies to 528,168 Ford Bronco SUVs from 2021 to 2026, and 321,142 Edge SUVs from 2021 through…
Celebrating the Fourth of July with fireworks is a cherished tradition for many Americans, but in South Dakota, it’s also controversial. President Trump announced that fireworks would return to Mt. Rushmore in 2026, the first time in 5 years, despite possible environmental risks. As the National Park Service (NPS) ramps up celebrations in honor of America’s 250th birthday this year, the plan at the historic site may be a harbinger of what’s to come. The Policy In a March 9 press release, the NPS announced that Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, located in South Dakota’s Black Hills, would host a fireworks…

While the outdoor economy is still growing, it’s going a bit slower than in previous years. Make no mistake: outdoor recreation is mega-popular in the U.S. and continues to expand. Unadjusted for inflation, the outdoor industry represented $696.7 billion of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024, according to data released last week by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. In raw dollars, that’s $1.3 trillion in economic output from spending on the most popular outdoor activities, including boating, RVing, and hunting. However, the industry grew by only 2.7% compared to 2023, when the industry saw a 5.3% increase. Perhaps…
