Standing at the top of the park jumps, it was my turn to ride in front of the camera. I would be sending the big jump line at Crested Butte Mountain Resort on a spring day in February. The unusually warm temperatures had the extreme terrain riding poorly due to icy conditions. But the terrain park, on a sunnier aspect, was perfectly soft. The local high school kids were out in force today, constantly putting down bigger tricks. At almost 30 years old, I have learned to approach the park a bit differently — no longer willing to take as…

By Scott Conditt Posted in #Gear Communication is something most of us rely on constantly without giving it much thought. In everyday life, instant connectivity is assumed. We text, call, navigate, check weather, and share our location without hesitation. The moment that connectivity disappears, its absence becomes immediately apparent. When you step outside normal infrastructure, whether hiking, hunting, camping, or preparing for emergencies, communication shifts from convenience to necessity. In those moments, the ability to signal, transmit information, or call for help can have real consequences. Anyone who spends time in remote terrain understands how quickly conditions…

The telltale splashy color blocks of Cotopaxi packs became a common sight inside airport terminals seemingly overnight. Beginning with the simple Del Dia daypacks and eventually the purpose-built Allpa carry-on bags, travel packs became the leading category for the iconic “Do Good” B-corp. With every size of carry-ons, soft-side roller bags, totes, and a variety of duffels, Cotopaxi had one glaring omission from the lineup: hard-side luggage. I received an early sample of the Coraza, Cotopaxi’s first hard-side, four-wheeled bags. Beyond the typical aesthetic flair, Cotopaxi tries to elbow a niche by making the bags modular, repairable, and semi-customizable. In…

Newly certified payload works across drones, robots, and radiation detection systems to speed deployment of GPS-denied mapping and fused CBRN visualizationsQUANTICO, VA, April 28, 2026 — Unveiled at Modern Day Marine 2026, Teledyne FLIR Defense announced the expansion of its Third-Party Payload Integration Program with the certification of Emesent’s Hovermap LiDAR Payload. The agreement will deliver Emesent’s GPS-denied 3D-mapping capabilities across Teledyne FLIR’s unmanned aerial systems (UAS), ground robots, and radiation detection platforms.  The Emesent–Teledyne FLIR combination addresses a GPS-denial gap in air and ground domains where unmanned systems can lose GPS connectivity in common operating areas, such as tunnels, urban structures, and CBRN-contaminated spaces. Using LiDAR-based Simultaneous Localization…

FN has just announced the PUREVIEW, a pistol red dot that uses holographic technology. The fact that the FN PUREVIEW is enclosed isn’t the most exciting part about the company’s new pistol optic, it’s the fact that it’s holographic. Traditional red dots use an LED emitter to bounce light off a reflective, curved lens back into the shooter’s eye, creating the reticle. Conversely, holographic sights use a laser diode and a holographic grating to project a 3D image of the reticle towards the target on a flat lens. While there are pros and cons to each type, holographic sights generally offer…
