Or to be more specific: How lightweight can a piece of gear be and still remain functional? That threshold seems ever closer with the debut of HOKA’s 2026 update of the Cielo X1 3.0. Now in its third iteration since the model’s debut in 2024, this super shoe aimed at long-distance running has dropped more weight than a supermodel prepping for the catwalk — and it was…

Based on what we’ve seen (and heard), Shokz is making some big strides. The pioneer in bone-conduction headphones is expanding into the broader personal audio space with some of its recent releases, including its OpenFit family of earbuds. The latest from Shokz, the OpenFit Pro, might just be the brand’s best earbuds yet. Earlier this month at CES, I got some ears-on time with the award-winning OpenFit Pro headphones. By Robert A. Sadowski Posted in #History In the late 1950s, there were basically two camps in the U.S. military on what the next service rifle should be — those who thought a service rifle should be made of wood and blued steel and wanted a modified version of the M1 Garand, and those who thought the future of the modern service rifle was with forged aluminum and polymer furniture. While the 5.56mm AR-15 today is so common and accepted that it’s viewed as the “standard” in self-loading rifle design, it is easy to forget how revolutionary…

This article originally appeared on The Inertia. A pair of lost hikers rewarded their rescuers’ efforts by sticking them with a hotel bill. To add insult to injury, the pair also made off with two headlamps that had been lent to them during their retrieval. As Wasdale Mountain Rescue explained in a Facebook post, the rescue occurred on Dec. 30, 2025, after two hikers became lost in dangerous weather conditions on England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike. The resulting operation, which Wasdale Mountain Rescue tactfully described as “avoidable,” took 7 hours to complete. Upon the hikers’ safe return, the bar manager…

The Ford Explorer has been an SUV staple for over 35 years. Early versions were capable off-roaders featuring truck-like amenities, such as a solid rear axle, two-speed transfer cases, and even five-speed manual transmissions. But, like many longer-running SUV nameplates, Explorer evolved. Nowadays, it offers car-like unibody construction, independent suspension, and a more compliant on-road demeanor. There’s even an on-road performance ST version. While the sporty ST lives on for 2026, Ford is also now offering a version focused on taming trails versus pounding pavement. Enter the 2026 Explorer Tremor. In short: The Explorer, like many other Ford truck and…

The late 1970s was an interesting era when it came to compact pistols. In the United States, the .45 ACP was king; 9 mm was something best left to Europeans. This was well before NRA helped pass the first Right-To-Carry law in Florida in 1987, and there was limited demand for concealable pistols—but there was some. To combine .45 ACP punch with a very compact pistol, inventor and manufacturer Philip R. Lichtman set up the Semmerling Corporation in Massachusetts. The Semmerling LM-4 was the smallest .45 ACP handgun available to date. It was not a semi-automatic, but rather a manually…
