The measure, Senate Bill 17, would ban common gas-operated semi-automatic firearms, .50-caliber rifles virtually never used in crimes and firearm magazines holding more than ten rounds under the guise of labeling them all “extremely dangerous weapons.” The measure passed by a 21-17 margin, with all Republican senators and three Democrats voting against the bill. Startlingly, the definition of a “semi-automatic firearm” in the legislation takes in far more than just the AR-style…

Washington state legislators are pulling out all the stops to ram through House Bill 2320, a sweeping measure that gun rights advocates warn criminalizes not just homemade firearms but the very knowledge and tools used to create them. On February 6, the Washington House made an unusual procedural move: they yanked HB 2320 from the Appropriations Committee—normally a mandatory stop for any bill with fiscal implications—and sent it straight to the Rules Committee. Translation: it can now hit the floor for a vote at any moment, with minimal public scrutiny. The NRA-ILA immediately called out the maneuver as an attempt…

Images by the author Even though I came to the bolt action rifle table a bit later in my life, I had been aware of the Scout rifle concept as envisaged by gun guru Jeff Cooper for decades. I just had no way to own one, nor a reason to. In more recent years, since becoming a writer, doors have been opened that were closed before.
