The search for a suspect is ongoing after a man was shot at the State University of New York at Morrisville, forcing a campus lockdown.

Police officers responded to SUNY Morrisville’s South Hall, one of the campus’ residential buildings, at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, regarding a report of a person shot, the New York State Police said in a statement.

Around the same time, the campus went on lockdown and announced that all evening classes had been canceled.

“Students in classes currently are required to remain in place. Please remain where you are until the lockdown has been lifted,” a post from the university on X reads.

After NYSP troopers arrived, a 20-year-old male who is not a student at SUNY Morrisville was located with a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment.

No other individuals were injured during the incident, and there are no reports of any additional victims, per the NYSP.

The NYSP later said there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the campus.

On Monday afternoon, SUNY Morrisville announced on its website that the shelter-in-place order had been lifted for all of campus, except for Onondaga and South Hall.

The university advised that residents of Onondaga and South Hall must remain in their residence halls until instructed otherwise by law enforcement, as they will be searching the buildings and remaining on campus throughout the night.

According to SUNY Morrisville, students who are cleared from Onondaga and South Halls can go to the Rec Center, where food will be provided. All other students can get food at the Seneca Dining Hall.

Her partner is a mid adult man in his 30s. It is nighttime and the emergency lights on top of the vehicles are flashing. The focus is on the cordon tape in the foreground.

“All of a sudden we heard the alarm saying this is a lockdown, this is a shelter in place and that this is an emergency,” Paige Novak, a student at SUNY Morrisville, told CNY Central. “It’s one of those things that you hear about that you think will never happen to you.”

The NYSP is leading the investigation in coordination with campus police and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

A command post has been established as law enforcement continues to process the scene and search nearby areas.

Members of the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), Uniformed Services, Special Operations Response Team (SORT), and K9 units are also on scene assisting with the investigation.

SUNY Morrisville advised the campus community to be prepared to see and receive instructions from law enforcement personnel.

The NYSP told PEOPLE on Monday evening there were no new updates in the investigation.

New York Gov. Kathleen Hochul said in a statement on X that she had been briefed on the shooting.
