  • A party in California turned deadly after a shooting broke out on Halloween night, killing one person and injuring another
  • Deputies were called to a home in the Newhall neighborhood of Santa Clarita on Oct. 31 at around 11:15 p.m. local time after receiving a report of a gunshot
  • One man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 27-year-old man was taken to a hospital in “critical” condition

A party in California turned deadly after a shooting broke out on Halloween night, killing one person and injuring another.

According to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to a home in the Newhall neighborhood of Santa Clarita — located about 30 miles north of Los Angeles — on Friday, Oct. 31, at around 11:15 p.m. local time after receiving a report of a gunshot.

When deputies arrived, they found two victims with gunshot wounds to the upper torso.

One male victim in his 30s — whose identity has not been made public — was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other victim — a 27-year-old man — was taken to a local hospital. His condition is listed as “critical,” officials said.

“Investigators learned that the shooting stemmed from a fight that took place at a Halloween party in the area,” the sheriff’s department added.

Video obtained by local news outlets including ABC 7 and KTLA shows rescue teams rushing to help the victims as people were crying as they left the party.

Homicide investigators are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but the sheriff’s department said that two male adult suspects were seen running away from the scene. Officials said the men were headed in an unknown direction, and no arrests have been reported as of Sunday, Nov. 2.
