NEED TO KNOW

  • Norman Taylor went viral on TikTok when he accosted two men for fishing on private property, saying “lock ’em up”
  • Taylor is now charged with misdemeanor sexual battery
  • The original viral video has racked up millions of views on TikTok and has spawned several parodies

A Virginia man went viral on TikTok when he said “lock ’em up” to two men fishing on private property. Now he’s facing a criminal charge himself.

Norman Taylor is charged with misdemeanor sexual battery in Nottoway County, according to online court records.

Taylor is the man seen pulling up in a white pickup truck to two fishermen, telling them to leave the property and warning that the police would get involved if they didn’t.

The video, captioned “Angry grandpa kicks me out of my fishing spot,” has been viewed several million times on TikTok since it was posted in August and has 2.3 million likes. It has since become fodder for several other parody videos on the platform.

In the video, Taylor also references his son, Trey Taylor, who owns Crewe Tractor in Crewe, Va.

A purported statement from Trey Taylor was posted on Crewe Tractor’s Facebook page saying he was “deeply hurt” by the allegations against his father.

“Crewe Tractor stands firmly against any form of harassment, abuse or misconduct,” the statement read. “Allegations of this nature are serious and deserve to be handled with the utmost respect, care and accountability.”

The statement also said that the company was cooperating with authorities and noted that Norman Taylor is not involved in the business.

Court records indicate that Taylor has since bonded out of jail after he was booked on Oct. 27. His listed attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It is not immediately clear if Taylor has entered a plea.
