On Monday we talked about some (but not all!) of the prototypes that We Knife Co. brought to Blade Show; today we’re taking a look at a couple from the Civivi label. One is a fixed blade from a new designer partner, while the second is a folder with a standout streamlined look.

Vintedge

Let’s start with the in-house Civivi piece. This is the Vintedge, a truly groan-worthy name that we could have come up with ourselves. While the name may imply something with a historical bent, really the Vintedge hearkens less to the days of yore than to the pure fundamentals of an everyday carry knife, with a no-muss no-fuss profile and 3.28-inch Nitro-V blade.

The handle is as simple and stick-like as it gets, which no doubt helps keep this knife impressively lightweight: Civivi lists a total carry of 2.3 oz. for these Blade Show prototypes. Details could of course change, but a reversible pocket clip is also a feature the proto Vintedges are equipped with.

Jencks

We chose to pair the Jencks with the Vintedge because, like that folder, this fixed blade really drills down into pure knife fundamentals. It comes to us from knife shop Cohort Blades, who have chosen to make an all purpose fixie with a noticeable infusion of bushcraft design cues too.

The flat ground, drop point blade, made from 14C28N, measures 3.54 inches long – a goodly edge length for many chores during the day-to-day, as well as at camp. The handle, with its mild rectangular flavor modified by some underside curvature and a flared pommel end, is built on an underlying full tang, capped with G-10 or Canvas Micarta scales. There’s a Kydex sheath in tow too, and the Jencks proto weighs 3.14 oz.
