NEED TO KNOW

  • Two boys, 11-year-old Ibrahim Abdul-Halim and 16-year-old Andrew Ahtay, have gone missing about a month apart from the same NYCHA Amsterdam Houses complex
  • Andrew has been reported missing twice before in 2020, when he was 10 and 11 years old
  • Both boys were last seen near their home at Amsterdam Houses and no new updates have been provided by the NYPD

The NYPD says that two children have gone missing a month apart from the same building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Eleven-year-old Ibrahim Abdul-Halim was last seen on June 5 at his home in the New York City Housing Authority’s Amsterdam Houses, the NYPD confirms to PEOPLE. Last month, 16-year-old Andrew Ahtay, who lives in the same building, was reported missing and is still missing.

Last Thursday, Ibrahim was last seen around 5:50 p.m., I Love The Upper West Side reported, which cited the NYPD. He has brown eyes, short black hair and is approximately 5 feet 1 inch tall. He was seen wearing a gray, long-sleeved shirt, gray checkered pants and multicolored sneakers.

Andrew was last seen leaving his home on May 5 around 7:10 a.m., according to the outlet, which cited police. Andrew is described as having a thin build, a medium complexion, brown eyes and black hair.

This is the third time Andrew has been reported missing leaving his home, according to reporting from the Bronx Daily and Patch. He was reported missing twice, the outlets reported.

Andrew was reported missing the first time in January 2020 when he was 10 years old, Patch reported. He was seen last at his home but was found soon after. The second time was in September 2020 when Andrew was 11 years old, also leaving his home, Bronx Daily reported.

Ibrahim and Andrew were both last seen within a few blocks of Amsterdam Houses, the local outlets reported.

The NYPD confirms to PEOPLE that there are no updates in both Ibrahim and Andrew’s cases. They are both still missing and their investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the disappearances is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
