A Florida man is facing a lengthy list of charges after allegedly shooting his three sons over the weekend.
Chris Brown, 36, allegedly shot one of his sons by accident while pistol-whipping the boy and then opened fire on the other two when they went to confront him after he shot their brother, according to a copy of a criminal affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
He is now charged with two counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and three counts of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.
Brown faces an additional count as well for allegedly being a felon in possession of a gun.
The affidavit says that the shooting occurred on May 18 while the three brothers were walking to a community pool from their home in Ruskin, a city located approximately 35 miles south of Tampa.
The three boys, who are not being named because they are all juveniles, told police that they had been “actively trying to avoid” Brown on May 18 because he “was causing issues at his residence.”
As they were walking to the pool, Brown pulled up and approached one of his sons with a “pink and black semiautomatic in his right hand,” the affidavit says.
Brown then “struck him in the left side of the face with the pistol causing the firearm to discharge a single rough which grazed [his] left jaw line and striking his left ear lobe,” according to the affidavit.
Then, as he “retreated to the vehicle,” the affidavit says that Brown “discharged several rounds” at his other two sons.
Deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office were able to obtain video surveillance of the incident as well after canvassing the area, which showed Brown hitting one son and then opening fire as his sons “are seen rushing towards [their father] as he enters the vehicle and discharged several rounds,” according to the affidavit.
The affidavit further alleges that Brown called one of his sons after the shooting and said “I tried to take your life” and “you won’t make it to Wednesday.”

That conversation was recorded by the son, who identified the caller making threats as Brown, according to the affidavit.
Deputies arrested Brown later that same day, and his actions at that time led to additional charges including resisting arrest, criminal mischief and two counts of burglarizing an occupied dwelling, according to inmate records obtained by PEOPLE.
Brown is due back in court on May 22. He is not eligible for parole because he is a felon charged with attempted murder.
